Missions & Outreach
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ has been an integral part of the Moravian Church particularly since the Church was renewed in 1727. In fact, the first Moravian missionaries went to live among the slaves on the Island of St. Thomas in order to share the gospel. This sense of mission is what brought the Moravians to the American colonies beginning in 1735 with the mission to Native Americans in Savannah,Georgia. Inspired by the Biblical witness and our own Moravian missionary zeal, Calvary carries out this mission emphasis by supporting outreach work both at home and abroad.
Members of Calvary are currently engaged in missionary work in Labrador, Canada, and Sierra Leone, West Africa. Calvary works with our sister congregation, Kigoto Moravian Church in Mwanza, Tanzania, to offer them support for the work of ministry in a Third World context.
Our church also shares God’s love locally. We are involved in the Forsyth County Jail and Prison Ministry, Crisis Control and the Sunnyside Ministry of the Moravian Church. Calvary is also committed to serving the poor and homeless in our downtown community through our Calvary Cares program of bi-monthly dinners and a weekly distribution of lunch bags. We also strive to love and support those in our own congregation through ministries such as Stephen Ministry and the Flower distribution program.
