Mary Listens at the Feet of Jesus
Hear these words from Luke 10:38-42
Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."

What does Mary's face and posture tell you about her? Are you a Mary or a Martha? Do you find that you sometimes confuse spending time listening to God with serving him? What is the difference? How can you spend more time simply being with the Lord?
Take a few minutes to be silent
Allow God to speak to you. When you are ready, speak with him. Ask God to help you learn how to simply be with him. God wants our love more than anything. Like any good relationship, a relationship with God needs time and attention. Show God you love him most my honoring him with your time. That's what he wants most!
Prayer
Lord, we confess that so often we are like Martha. We busily move through our day, jumping from one task to the next, never stopping to honor you with our time. Teach us that life is not about what we can do or accomplish, but about living to your glory. Remind us that our relationship with you is a priority. For if we forsake needed time with you for the world, our lives will show it. Teach us how to be quiet before you, to bask in the sunshine of your love and hear you calling us your beloved. Amen.
