Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

Hear these words from Matthew 26:36-41

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go yonder and pray." And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt." And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Observe the window

Zinzendorf once said that our redemption was won in Gethsemane because the Lord surrendered his own will there to the will of the Father. Is there something in your life right now that you need to surrender to God? Do you find it difficult to let go of what you want instead of what God wants for you?

Take a few minutes to be silent

Allow God to speak to you. When you are ready, speak with him. Meditate on these words: My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Have Thine own way Lord!
Have Thine own way!
Thou are the Potter;
I am the clay,
Mold me and make me,
After Thy will,
While I am waiting,
Yielded and still.
